Named for a Perry man who was a circus agent and owner, this room recalls the days when the lure of the Big Top and circus parades brought excitement to even the smallest towns.
For years many of the huge posters that told the world the circus was coming to town were printed in Perry for circuses across the United States. The man who printed and distributed them was R.M. Harvey, circus agent and owner for more than 60 years. At one time Harvey also owned the Perry Chief and built the Opera house. this room, decorated with artifacts from the days when towns, remembers Harvey and the lure of the Big Top.
The features behind the R.M. Harvey room resembles the early days of the circus with bright colors throughout with antique posters and a partial circus tent over a portion of the bed. Several of the items of circus memorabilia in the room were generously donated by R.M. Harvey's nephew, R. Lynn Johnson who lives in nearby Des Moines.
